Sadhana Spiritual Morning Practice



“Sadhana gives fearlessness and a sense of self, as well as projection, polarity combination, equilibrium, respectability, totality, internal and external self-knowlege, purity, dignity, divinity, and grace..You become a shining, living grace.” Yogi Bhajan
Many Kundalini yogis begin their morning sadhana with the recitation of Japji, a Sikh holy prayer. Although Japji is a standard part of what is known as the Aquarian Sadhana, and a beautiful and powerful spiritual practice, you do not have to recite Japji as a part of your morning sadhana. Sadhana is between you and you, so choose wisely what you do.

The Yoga Set

Physical exercise is an important part of sadhana.  Kriya help us to get our circulation going, remove tension and release emotional blocks. It cleans the organs, stimulates the glandular system, and awakens the will.  Practice a suitable Kundalini yoga kriya as taught by Yogi Bhajan. More even than physical fitness, this process of sadhana gives you spiritual fitness, and the chance to work out your mind, so for the rest of your day all you have to work out is your life.  The yoga and relaxation will take about an hour.

Chanting the Aquarian Sadhana Mantras

After Japji and about 25-30 minutes of yoga (followed by relaxation), everyone comes together to chant the Aquarian Sadhana mantras.

Ending the Aquarian Sadhana

Usually one sings the Long Time Sun song and chanting Long Sat Naams.

Free movement is a creative, embodied movement practice for our current times. It is rooted in the understanding of how change happens. Its intention is to help you to access more of the physical and emotional intelligence that’s inside you through bringing awareness to the way you move, feel and think.
Free movement is an invitation for personal empowerment, where the flow is free and intuitively lead by our own body.

Standing and balancing asanas are the building blocks of a yoga asana practice. They are associated with the first chakra – muladhara, located at the base of the spine.

Muladhara chakra corresponds to our relationships to our parents, family, home, career, money, environment, issues of survival and the element earth.

By Earth we mean all things, all manifestations of reality. Earth not only means the ground we walk on, the air we breathe, or the water we drink, but also all the beings-animals, plants, and minerals-that we come into contact with daily.

Yoga teaches us that everything is connected

According to Patanjali, the seat that you establish should be steady and joyful, in body as well as mind. The word asana, therefore, also describes the goal of this yoga practice, which is to consciously relate to all beings with steadiness and joy

Through this grounding practice, the body will become strong and articulate and the mind alert and focused, which is very helpful for the practitioner to become more conscious, finding inner balance and poise to stand on our own feet.

14:30 to 15:30 Tea and chat satsang on the teachings of the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali (Included in full weekend)


15:30-18.00 Practices to bring a happy spirit, contentment in all areas of our lives.

Patanjali Yoga Sutra – SadhanaPada.

In the second chapter of Yoga Sutras, Patanjali described a three-stepped method:

tapah svadhyaya ishvara-pranidhana kriya-yogah

Here Patanjali provides the practical means of purifying and concentrating the mind, so that nirodha is possible through purification, Self study and surrender to a higher power.

Patanjali is compassionate for souls who are unable to surrender themselves to Divine grace alone, and provides a chapter describing more detailed conscious spiritual practices. (Sadhana)

Providing an eight-step method for those of us who still need more practical “how-to” direction in the ways to untangle ourselves from the dukha (suffering).

Since many of us feel that our unhappiness is caused by the actions of others, the eight- step plan begins with the Yamas (restraints). The Yamas address our relationships with others.

When we begin to simplify our lives and live in a more compassionate way, mind clutter is removed and we can begin to feel more content.

This workshop will include teachings on ethics, lifestyle, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, meditation techniques  and chanting as an integrated approach to Yoga.

We will building up the yoga fire with a tapasic  practice and looking at disturbances of mind with inversions.

Finishing with meditation to reflect on how these useful tools given to us from ancient scriptures will help us to move forward with grace.

The activities and stresses of our daily lives can often lead to tightness and discomfort in our hips. Releasing this tension is crucial for our overall health.

In this deep hip opening workshop, you will learn to step out of the unconscious need to jam your body somewhere and find instead a sensible, sensitive and compassionate approach to the hips and leg rotation.

With a mindful approach to the area of swadhisthana chakra, we can release stress and negative emotional memories, which may be stored in the hips on an energetic level.

14:00 -16:00  To Restrain in order to truly let go Pranayama and Restoratives Sunday 

Pranayama is the practice of controlling or regulating vital life force (prana) in order to increase lung capacity, vitality, clear focus and overall wellbeing.  This workshop will provide you with practical advice and techniques for Nadi Shodana, anuloma viloma, brahmari and sitali finishing with nurturing restorative poses to bring you back to completeness.

Donna and Joey are both KPJAYI Level II Authorised teachers and are direct students of the late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. They have world-wide reputations as inspiring and dedicated teachers of the Ashtanga Yoga method. The weekend course in Manchester has the following structure:

This course is not suitable for complete beginners. Knowledge of Second Series is not essential and the Saturday & Sunday afternoon sessions will provide unique opportunities to explore backbends and arm balances with Joey and Donna’s expertise in a safe and supportive environment.

Early booking is highly recommended as their last Manchester workshop sold out within a week. If you are booking for part of the workshop, please advise which sessions you would like to attend.
